About Rob Chalmers
Rob Chalmers is the longest serving member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, is a former President of the National Press Club, and with Jenny Hutchison wrote the book 'Inside Canberra'.
He was also chairman of a committee which put together the Jubilee History of the Royal Canberra Golf Club, and was a member of the club’s committee.
Rob was first associated with the newsletter 'Inside Canberra' in 1957. From the mid-seventies he edited and wrote the newsletter and for a short time the newsletter 'Chalmers in Canberra' (see HISTORY).
Rob is an authoritative writer on the interface between the Commonwealth Parliament, Federal government and the Australian business community. He is widely travelled and an authority on trade and industry issues. Rob’s first overseas mission was to cover the 1962 Commonwealth Prime Ministers Conference in London at which the dominant issue was the UK’s efforts, under Harold Macmillan, to enter what was then called the European common Market.
Rob is widely regarded as one of the shrewdest and independent analysts of the political scene in Australia.
